Don’t Ignore Your Bones, Get Crackin’ And Workout!

There’s a famous saying which goes, “If you don’t make time for health now, you will have to make time later for hospital visits.” Isn’t that true? Often, women keep neglecting their health in the early stages. It is when they become aware of some serious problem, do they start taking their health and fitness seriously.

On that note, bone health is not something that most women think about until it becomes an issue, which usually happens later in life. While men and women can both suffer from weakening of the bones, it is a particular issue for women, especially after they hit menopause.

You have to admit to the fact that there are no shortcuts to becoming fit and healthy. Fad diets are only a short term solution and don’t work in the long run. It’s only when you incorporate healthy habits in your lifestyle that you will begin to notice the positive changes in your mind as well as body. Changes are not just limited to eating pattern but also with regards to how you perform on a day-to-day basis.

Yoga & Pranayama

When I graduated from the London School of Economics and was working with Goldman Sachs, life was a relentless cycle of work and partying. The stress was beginning to show and I found myself coping with allergies. My mother came to my  rescue. She taught me Yoga and shared the benefits of Pranayama – which includes a healthy heart, increased levels of concentration, relaxation and an abundant source of prana/energy.

Not only did the allergies disappear, but I was coping well with my exceedingly busy life. I decided then, to never stop practicing yoga. Twelve years later, when I began my business, along with my husband Rohan Bhargava, I was glad I had never let go of the yoga routine. My belief in my exercise routine has only grown since we got into our business. We’re never really ‘off’, whether it’s a weekend or not, and it’s this exercise routine that really rejuvenates us.

But perhaps the most interesting thing that I do is combine the exercise hour with visualization - imagining my life and day to be what I desire.

This way I get the kind of day I want, not the kind of day that is forced upon me. Even a few minutes of what I call ‘a visualization zone helps my day pan out just wonderfully.

This is no rocket science, all it needs is disciplining your lifestyle to enjoy life better, rather than suffer. So, whether it’s yoga or meditation or the treadmill, the underlying purpose is the same — to create positivity in your life and boost your bone health.
