Little Triplets Icy [Male],Picy [Female] and Licy [Female] were in their mother’s womb talking, Icy said – I do not want to share this place with you two. I am in minority, I will ask mother to reserve
- 2/3rd space in the womb for me or shift me to father’s womb
- A separate umbilical cord or fix timing for my supply of food and nutrients
- Separate play time as you both keep hitting me during our common playtime
Possible or not is not the question, do you call it fair? Could you relate the above situation to your real life? Have you ever used reservation as a power or were you ever abused by it? Are you for or against women’s reservation?
We bring to you very fundamental facts and statements today,
India is a land of reservations; blame it on a growing population or secularity but on this pious soil, the reservation gene is embedded. Starting with school, college, government jobs, train travel, bus travel, hotel booking, we all “reserve” our place, be it caste based, gender based, age based or simply money based. Recently the women’s bill was passed by Rajya Sabha but is still pending in Lok Sabha. Do you think once the ruling is made, it would solve all problems? Let’s dive in to find out
The Motive
Reservation is meant:
-To empower women
-Create equal opportunity at the workplace
-Close gender disparity
The FOR statement
-Women need to climb up on the professional ladder; the only possibility is getting reservations.
-A great deal of gender disparity is observed in private and government workplaces, reservations will help in closing that disparity
-Since long, women were treated merely as domestic keepers, reservation would help them rise professionally
As pointed out by Forbes women are better managers, but blame it on “gender” that they are overlooked . As stated in Harvard Business Review - It’s hard not to conclude that when it comes time for promotion, some — many — highly qualified women are being overlooked.
The AGAINST Statement
-The implicit meaning of reservation is to provide strength to a weaker section of the society and women are not weak!
-Reservation creates a divide; women know how to succeed and have done it in the past.
It is a fallacy to believe that women legislators solve women’s problems better - The streets of Chennai, Jaipur or Kolkata, all in states ruled by powerful women, are no safer from the streets of Bangalore and Mumbai which have male chief ministers.
Packing parliament with 150 ‘Rabri Devis‘, elected as proxies for their male relatives will defeat the spirit and the purpose of the entire idea
Women are responsible for two-thirds of the work done worldwide, yet earn only 10 percent of the total income and own 1 percent of the property… So, are we equals? Until the answer is yes, we must never stop asking – Daniel Craig. Women demand equal rights – If we are good, Hire us and if we are bad, Fire us!
Creating powerful women is not quite the same as empowering women.
So, what stops Women from empowering?
-Illiteracy, as per UNESCO report - Two-thirds of the 774 million illiterate people in the world are female
-No Professional Training or skilled labor training for females
-Child Marriages and early pregnancy cause death in young women aged 15-19.
-The educated ones have to quit their career to nurture kids
-Limited options available to manage kids and work parallelly
-Very few options for returning professionals
Could reservation help?
-In making sure, each girl child is educated?
-In getting the females workers trained as professionals?
-Stop Child marriage and early pregnancy?
-Educated women to continue a career after stepping into motherhood?
-In managing work and kids parallelly?
-In providing job surety to returning professionals?
If the answers to above questions are all YES, let’s vote FOR reservation and if you answered NO,RESERVATION is not a solution for women empowerment!
