I have been fortunate enough to have some awesome people advise me early on in my career. Here are a few lessons I have learnt in my two years of work experience:
Strive for excellence
No one ever gets anywhere being average. Chase high quality and excellence in whatever you do--give quality and expect quality.
Ask for what you want
I am still learning this. It certainly takes some time and experience to get better at. But it is important, both professionally and personally.
Show gratitude
Do this often to people who have helped you, and give back when you can. It is magical. True gratitude is rare in life, because many things are driven by various incentives. When you are truly grateful, people know.
Work hard and smart
There is no shortcut, but learn to work smartly. Know your stuff well and be your best at it.
Listening is the key
Before you talk, listen; get to know the other person’s perspective. Do not jump to conclusions.
Take Charge!
Your career is yours and nobody else’s. You need to make your own decisions and do what you want. Advice, suggestions will always pour in, but it is you who has to take charge. Do not regret doing something.
