AI v/s humans: what the future beholds

In recent times the Artificial Intelligence concept has gained much limelight in the field of science and technology. There have been two mutually contradictory schools of thought prevailing. One that believes that AI is set to overpower human intelligence and rule the world in future while the other, believing in the unlimited human capacity dreads any such possibility and insists on human dominance.

Artificial Intelligence has taken such high leaps in the technological sector that every big player in the market is exploiting the technology. But in the early stages when AI failed due to lack of processing of data, then Big Data came to its rescue. With the help of MapReduce and cloud, AI can have as much processing power as it needs. Major Players like Google are using AI and Big Data to create software capable of thinking like humans, based on the same platform as Google translate.

Before going deep into the differences that separate humans from AI, they need to be defined first.

Human Intelligence

It is a natural intellectual capacity of humans which can be determined by consciousness, awareness, and perception.

Artificial Intelligence

It is intelligent activities shown by machines. It is created to have human like qualities in robots to assist mankind.

Let us have a comparative analysis of the two types of intelligences for better understanding:

Human Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence

It is the result of human consciousness and perpetual learning capacity.

It is an outcome of the functioning of a fast processor filled with a large amount of information.

It is an analogue, works in the form of signals

It is digital, works in the form of numbers

Humans use their memory

AI has built-in memory made by scientists

Human brains have distinct mass.

AI is all in one has no distinction of brain and body.

Human intelligence is ever evolving

AI is artificial, temporary.

The human brain cannot retreat information quickly

AI can retreat information in no time

Human intelligence helps him decide according to output prioritization.

AI decides only within the limits of provided criteria.

Human intelligence has well developed sense of value and ethics.

AI deals only with data and does not have values.

Human intelligence is unique. Every human reaches his own conclusion for every situation.

AI is programmed. All the processors which are similarly programmed will reach the same conclusion for every situation.

Human intelligence is original and is capable of sensing the environment.

AI is imitative and does not have a sense of environment.

There are discussions regarding AI exceeding humans. But practically, it’s not possible. Firstly AI hasn’t reached that stage where it needs no human input, so it is still dependent on humans rather than vice versa. The human brain is an ever evolving organ and its full capacity is not estimated till today, whereas artificial intelligence is a copy of human thinking, it has no brain activity of its own. Sure, it’s faster than the human brain and can retrieve information quicker than humans, but its merely a creature to the creator.
